January FOTA Meeting Minutes

January 8, 2008

7:00 p.m.

Tomahawk Regional Airport Terminal

 

I.                   Call to Order/Pledge of Allegiance

A.  Meeting was called to order at 7:11 p.m. with 14 members present.

B.  Visitor introductions were made – Ed Nyberg                                             

II.                Secretary’s Report – Dee

A.  Bob Lussow made the motion to accept and put on file the November minutes.  Seconded by Jeff Melau.  Motion passed.

III.             Treasurer’s Report – Dean

A.  Report was handed out at meeting.  

B.  Bob Lussow motioned to accept report.  Jeff Melau seconded.  Passed.

IV.              Maintenance Report – Jake

A.  The blower and the plow are on the truck.

B.  Jeff & Lorna Fisher and Bob Lussow have helped with the plowing.  The cutting edge is ok.

C.  3 lights are/were frozen and taken care of.

D.  Jake is planning on going to a fueling class in February?/Spring.

V.                 Manager’s Report – Bob Lussow

A.  Garbage has not been dropped.  The garbage company was just not picking it up.  Bob made a call to company and now the garbage will be picked up.

B.  The low bid on the fueling cabinet was accepted.  Parts are coming for the card reader plus a heater is being sent, including a metal cover.  Cost is $450-500.

C.  Building is not done.  Northernskies has not moved over 100% yet.

VI.              Old Business

      A.  2007 Christmas party

            a.  fun, great party

            b.  more beer is needed for next year.

            B.  FOTA shirts

                  a.  logo prices to have shirts embroidered here in town are $5.30 small                size and $16.75 for a full size.

                  b.  catalogues will be looked at after the meeting

C.  FOTA Calendars

      a.  this year the routes were too big for passing out and picking up for                 one person.    

      b.  Gary suggested that next year we begin the “5 New Friends” plan.                 That means that we each find 5 friends to sell 10 calendars each. 

c.  The suggestion was made to find sponsors for printing the calendars and possibly redesign them, as well.

D.  Terminal Building

a.  A suggestion was made to have a working party this spring/summer.

b.  Things that need to be done:

     1.  Painting the outside of the terminal

     2.  Pavillion roof

    3.  4 windows need to be replaced (in the process of getting a bid)

c.  Chairs are not done.  The double sets are still at Brown’s.

 

 

E.  Fuel Farm & Card Reader

      a.  This won’t be done until the ground has thawed.

      b.  Supplier is O’Day from Minneapolis .  His bid was $90,000.  We are

       receiving $100,000 from the State. 

F.      Fly-In Raffle

a.  Dean took care of the 5 calendar winners and the toy raffles were taken care of at the Christmas party.

 

 

         VII.  New Business

A.     Membership – Timi Lussow

a.  This was begun at the Christmas party.  93 are in the data bank.  37 paid members and 11 are lifetime.

B.     Conference/Meeting Room

C.     Flags

a.  Flags are in good condition.  They do not need to be replaced.

D.    Fire Department/Radio

a.  There was an article in the Tomahawk Leader about FOTA giving a radio to the Fire Department to be used for Search and Rescue.

E.     Bob Lee/City Council

a.  The Tomahawk Mayor (Bob Lee) is a FOTA member.  Checking to see if the Tomahawk City Council could have one of their meetings at the airport.

F.      Monthly FOTA meeting time

a.  Discussion was about changing meeting time from 7 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.   Bob Lussow motioned to keep it at 7 p.m., Bob Wallis seconded.  Passed.

G.    2008 Fly-In Date

a.  August 17, 2008 , the 3rd Sunday in August

H.    Cookbooks –Vi Herman    

a.  Vi received information about putting together a FOTA cookbook thru Cookbook Publishers.  A projected profit was seen around $700.

b.  No vote was taken on whether to do this project.  Will be discussed at the February meeting.

c.  Once the recipes are collected, it takes 35 – 80 days to get the books.                 

I.   January FOTA Dinner location

      a.  Walleye Lodge – the 3rd Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.          

I.       Other

a.  Dee suggested to have Minutes emailed out to members. 

b.  Poker Run – Ray Marvin will research from Wausau Flying Club how they run theirs and if it would be something we would want to do.

c.  Membership Packet was another suggestion.  In it would be Promo materials, maybe a FOTA can cooler/pens/hats/t-shirt.

d.  Private Pilot Ground School begins on February 5.  Those students receive a Free FOTA membership.

 

At 8:34 p.m. a motion to end the meeting was made by Jeff Melau, seconded by Bob Lussow.  Passed.

Next meeting is scheduled for February 12, 2008 at Tomahawk Regional Terminal Building at 7:00 p.m.
